ADHD in African American Children
Abstract
The objective of the study was to explore the nature of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) ***** African American children, and to compare with findings from a similar study of Caucasian *****. The subjects, all between 6 and 17 years, were 43 African American children, 19 with ***** ***** 24 without ADHD. Ethnically sensitive assessments were conducted through structured interviews with the mothers of all the ***** and with all subjects over the age of 12 years. Psychiatrists and child psychologists used audiotapes of the ***** ***** diagnose psychiatric disorders. The preliminary findings show that; using currently accepted definitions, African American ********** with ADHD had higher levels ***** psychiatric ***** other than ADHD, which is similar, although not identical, to the results of the previous study of Caucasian children.
