After an individual has ceased the consumption of alcohol after a prolonged period ***** excessive consumption, symptoms indicative of Alcohol Withdrawal may begin to appear. The cessation of alcohol ***** is ***** first criteria (A) ***** meeting the st*****dards for a diagnosis for alcohol withdrawal. Criteria B of Alcohol Withdrawal is ***** presence of at least two ***** the following symptoms:
autonomic hyperactivity (e.g.) sweating or pulse rate greater than 100) increased hand trem***** insomnia nausea or vomiting transient visual, tactile, or audit*****y hallucinations or illusions psychomotor agitation anxiety grand mal seizures
Fewer than 10% of individuals who develop Alcohol Withdrawal will ever develop dramatic sumptoms (e.g. severe autonomic hyperactivity, tremors, and Alcohol Withdrawal Delierium)" (216).
As with virtually all disorders one ***** the criteria for the diagnosis is that these symptoms are disruptive ***** dysfunctional in the life of the client, causing trouble in social, romantic, and pr*****essional relationships.
Also another standard element of ***** is ***** these symptoms are not clearly or potentially the result of some o*****r kind ***** mental dis*****der, or artificially induced through some kind of substance or medication or other medical condition.
One specifier exists in this diagnosis and that is if the ***** develops hallucinations. When this occurs the DSM suggest ***** "a ***** of Substance-Induced Psychotic Disorder, With Hallucination" should be considered (216). This ***** is referred to as "***** Perceptual Disturbances" (216).
