Analogy of Stem Cells

My essay was inspired by recent headlines regarding stem cell research. There has been a lot of controversy over the use of unused embryos left over from abortions. The core of the stem ***** debate is a battle ***** abortion, as stem cells come from embryos.

I am in support of ***** cell research and believe that a good *****nalogy to describe this process is: using stem cells from unborn ***** is like handing a dying patient the gift of life.

***** studies show that stem ***** may hold ***** key to d*****covering a cure for m*****ny mysterious diseases, including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

***** pro-life advocates compare the use of stem cells ***** research ***** experiments performed by Nazi doctors during World War II. These advocates are zeroing in on a narrow subject ***** ignoring the possibilities of stem cells in scientific research. These ***** could truly benefit millions ***** ailing patients and ********** families. Also, they are ignoring the fact that these cells would otherwise be useless and unceremoniously discarded.

My argument against this is that if the embryos left over from infertility clinics ***** going to be wasted anyway, why not put them to some use and allow their lives to be spent helping to save someone else?

During embryonic development, a newly fertilized egg gener*****tes all the tissues of a mature person, organizing them into a functionally integrated whole. The embryo generates a wide range of adult cell types, such as skin, bone, muscle, hair and teeth. The embryo is constantly building, moving and remodeling cells.

The earliest stem cells are the ********** stem cells and they give rise to all tissues in the body. This means that ***** ***** capable of generat*****g ***** things.

Stem ***** have been identified in placental tissue, fat tissue, and umbilical cords. Stem cells have also ***** extracted from human ***** that were fertilized with the possibility of their be*****g implanted in the womb of a woman subject to in-vitro fertilization.

Fertility clinics *****ten produce more human embryos than will be needed ***** achieve pregnancy. There are expenses associated ***** their storage and there is the likelihood that many may never be ***** even though there ***** adoption programs that have resulted in the births of children ***** these extra embryos.

Accord*****g to the results of an *****imal study conducted at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, transplant*****ion of embryonic stem cells can help repair heart muscle ***** improve cardiac function following ***** attacks and the development of congestive heart failure.

***** extraordinary findings significantly ra*****e the possibilities for future treatment options for congestive ***** failure, which diminishes the heart's pumping ability.

The cause and effect pattern ***** my analogy is simple. Using stem ***** from unborn embryos is like ***** a dying patient the gift of life because if a ***** is dying due ***** disease (cause of the problem), the *****s of ***** cell research could ***** his/her *****.

***** unborn embryo would be wasted if
