Career Preparation & Options for College
For most people, particularly the youth, the period during and beyond high school is marked by important career dec*****ion-making, thus it is important that students are adequately prepared to make these choices (Ireh). Therefore, high schools should integrate curricula with career-occupation training (Kazis).
It is believed that the development of a school-to-career system will provide young students with adequate training that ***** prepare them for future employments (Kazis). This system can be *****d ***** existing high school curricula in an effort to provide students with occupation-specific ***** (*****). Communities, superintendents ***** other district leaders throughout the country are *****ginning to seize on the potential for using the school-to-career notion as a lever for serious, *****ic education reform (Kazis). The school-to-career approach is characterized by the integration of academic and vocational learning with an emphas***** on closer links between ***** and employers (*****). It also includes the design of learning experiences outside ***** classroom, ***** the use ***** careers and occupational clusters as a way to organize the curriculum (Kazis). In cities such as Boston, Oakland, Philadelphia, and Milwaukee, the ***** approach is emerging as a strategy for restructuring the high school experience in an effort to better prepare students for both ***** and occupational advancement (Kaz*****). Since many students know little about their career options, their own talents, real-life work experience, and what preparation is needed ***** particular jobs ***** careers, programs that expose ***** ***** various careers can engage them in school and provide them with options (Medrich).
