For One More Day
If I could visit with my grandfather for one more day, the first thing ***** would do would be to cook him a huge breakfast. He always liked ***** eat, and often complained about his wife's (***** grandmother's) cooking--god naturedly, of course. ***** died when I was fairly young, so over breakfast I would ask him all the questions ***** is history that I was never able to, in an attempt ***** understand ***** in a way that my child's mind couldn't while he was alive. In his novel, For ***** More *****, Mitch Albom says, "Parents slot into postures in a child's mind" (Albom, 20). T***** s*****me is true of grandparents, and everyone else, really, ***** me, my grandfather occupied a ***** of *****ncient and almost inapproachable wisdom. He was not mean, but he was not especially good with children, and I think ***** we could have a much ***** meaningful conversation now that I'm older.
***** also makes another profound observation in his book: "your mother ***** father pass through you to your children, like it or not" (Albom, 87). This is also ***** of my *****. He wasn't good ***** kids when my father was grow*****g up, e*****her, and I ***** I have some idea of what it was like growing up with my gr*****father after I grew up with my dad. Th***** is one of the most important tings ***** ***** talk ***** my grandfather about in our one more day--what my father ***** like, and why he made the choices he did, ***** how he became t***** person and fa*****her that he is. Underst*****ing ***** grandfather would help me to understand my father, too.
***** than anything else, I ***** spend my one day with my grand***** trying to make him happy. We ***** so ***** of our lives trying to get things from people--whether its money, power, love, or even simple understanding. I never saw my *****father as an especially happy person, and I would like ***** try to make that happen ***** him. *****f that *****n't what life's supposed to be *****, I don't k***** what is.
