Abstract of dissertation:

The technology boom of the 1990s created instant wealth and a host of new services and products to be marketed throughout the economy. Despite this, many consumers preferred (***** still do) ***** "bricks and mortar" of an actual store location; by adapting their website services ***** other methods ***** e-commerce, especially marketing *****, companies have been able to capitalize on the success of computer-mediated ***** to allow consumers ***** browse, compare, and buy online. This paper first provides a broad depiction of the development of e-commerce, including several techniques to *****fully implement such a program. The study undertaken then focuses specifically on the methods of ***** and developing the computer-mediated envir*****ment of business that is taking over as the primary means ***** retail in today's economy.

Without a doubt, the Internet is usher*****g in an era of sweeping change that will leave no business or industry untouched. In just three years, the Net h***** gone from a playground for nerds into a vast communications and trading centre where some 90 million people swap in*****mation or do deals around the w*****ld. Imagine: It took radio more than 30 ***** to reach 60 million people, ***** television 15 years. Never has a ***** caught fire so fast. (Edwards, 1998)

With the astonishing growth of ***** Internet, many ***** are finding new and exciting ways to expand upon their business opportunities. *****re ***** very few successful companies that do *****t use computers in their e*****day ***** activities, which also means there are few companies ***** do not use e-commerce. To emphasize the point that the effect of the Internet is so widespread in today's business communities, one ***** article stated that more than 100000 companies have Internet addresses, and 20000 companies have home pages on ***** Internet as of February 1999. (DataQuest, 1999). These numbers ***** ***** than tripled since 1995, and the trend shows no signs of slowing. But what exactly ***** e-commerce? To most casual Internet surfers, e-commerce means online shopping; workaholics pointing their web browser to Amazon.com to order an emergency present because they forgot someone's birthday again. (Weiss, 1999) As we will soon find out, this is far from the case.

E-commerce became very popular soon after it proved to be an efficient means to conduct long distance transactions.
