The purpose of this paper is to introduce, d*****cuss, and analyze the topic of *****n history. Specifically it will discuss the main similarities ***** differences between colonialism in Vietnam, Korea, and Taiwan. Two of these areas ***** Asia were colonized by the Japanese, and one by the French. Their experiences were all quite similar under colonial rule, but their post-***** histories can vary greatly.

Vietnamese colonialism occurred in the 19th century ***** the French. However, many of the ***** who benef*****ed from this modernization program were ***** immigrants who moved to the country and built up large rubber and tea plantations. Many Vietnamese lost their farms that their families had kept f***** generations because ***** were unable to pay for the l***** after prices escalated. Thus, ***** native people suffered tremendously ***** French rule, while many French grew rich in the *****. As ***** be expected, a hostile movement grew up around ***** ***** and the native ***** *****gan to dem***** self-rule. A strong anti-colonial faction began urging revolt and reform. Opposition began as early as the 1920s, and continued through World War II. Communist Ho Chi Minh formed a guerilla group ***** fought colonialism, and in 1945 M*****h declared Vietnam's independence from France, but French forces pushed his group out in 1946. This began a struggle for Vietnamese control that would end with the Vietnam War. Post-colonial Vietnam became a Communist nation, and France's influence clearly led to this result. *****nti-colonial ***** were led ***** strong leaders, and eventually the people followed them instead ***** *****siders.

***** also had a tumultuous coloni*****l period. They were a colony of J*****pan, and to this day, there is huge animosity between Korea and Japan because of the colonial experience. The Japanese ruled Korea with an iron h*****, and ********** greatly resented it. Most government functions were led by Japanese, and Japanese regulators oversaw everything from agriculture to industry. However, ***** Japanese did ***** Korea and build up railroads ***** industrial centers ***** helped Korea grow ***** the Japanese ***** and World War II *****ed.
