There are many trends when it comes to employee motivation, because businesses have determined that money is not the only thing ***** ********** want. Instead, *****se employees are motivated by different *****s. It used to be that everyone assumed that employees wanted more money, and they could do any job forever, as long as they were given periodic raises *****/or bonuses (Beer & Nohria, 2000). In other words, the employer assumed that money was all that mattered to these people that worked for the company (Beer & Nohria, *****). However, employers eventually began to realize ***** praising ***** made them smile, and having a casual day once a week for employees that worked on-site at the company ***** employees ***** relaxed. In addition, giving more freedom to employees that ***** in the field as part of an outside sales force also helped ***** keep them motivated (Beer ***** Nohria, 2000).

Employers ***** started notic*****g ***** their employees felt passionately about issues such as their vacation time or their health insurance, and that ***** of them preferred pay-for-performance ways of making money, such as commission. By being paid in that way, employees ***** were doing well at selling outside ***** the ***** in the territory that ***** had been **********, for example, ***** make a great deal more ***** than those ***** were not doing as well (***** & Nohria, 2000). This w***** thought to be more fair and realistic than paying everyone the same wage regardless of how well they performed (Beer & Nohria, 2000).
