All the Evidence

The purpose of this paper is to introduce, discuss, and analyze the short stories "A Jury of Her Peers" and "Trifles" by Susan Glaspell. Specifically, it will discuss how the men would interpret ***** evidence the women found. These two ***** are really ***** same story, one told in a short *****, ***** the o*****r told in a play. The women ***** much more observant and astute than the men in this story, ***** they find evidence that shows Mrs. Wright had a real reason to hate her husband. He drove her to murder because of his cruelty and disregard, but the ***** ignore the obvious signs, and simply laugh *****f the women's findings. If ***** women had presented the rest of ***** evidence they found, they would have *****ed ***** off as well, because they do not respect their wives or give them any credit for coherent, rational thought.

The men in ***** story are full of ***** own importance, and the ***** the women discover is ***** important to *****. They continually belittle the ***** and make light of what ***** do. It begins when the sheriff ********** the items in the kitchen. Glaspell writes, "'Nothing here but kitchen things,' he said, with a little l*****ugh for ***** insignificance of kitchen things" (*****). Right away, it ***** easy to see how he ***** t***** o*****her men feel about wo***** and their work. They ***** their ***** ***** insignificant, and so, they could not possibly have the common sense to stumble across ***** evidence and interpret it correctly. That is left unsaid throughout ***** story, ***** it is clear the men have no respect for their wives or their intelligence.

Later, another ***** the ***** says, "'Oh, well,' said Mrs. Hale's husband, w*****h good-natured superiority, 'women are used to worrying over trifles'" (Glaspell). That is exactly ***** they ***** think of the dead bird and the other clues the women d*****cover as ********** talk. Mr. Wright was a cruel man, and he drove his wife over the edge of sanity ***** taking away the only thing she ***** ***** love ***** com*****t. The men could never understand that, and *****, the women rightfully keep the evidence to *****mselves. To the men, the bird would be nothing ***** than a "trifle," and they certainly would not underst***** how its ***** ***** create such hatred and bitterness inside *****s. Wright.

It is also quite clear the men ***** ***** think the women ***** intelligent enough to know a clue if they saw it. ***** writes, "'But would the women ***** a clue if ***** did come upon it?' he *****; **********, having delivered himself ***** this, he followed t***** *****s *****hrough the stair door" (Glaspell). Clearly, ***** they did share the evidence they find with the men, ***** ***** simply laugh it off and discount it. ********** do not respect the ***** or ***** intuition, and so, they would simply ignore or discount the evidence if the
