I. Introduction
The job satisfaction rate of caregivers should be of great concern to any long-term care organization or employer in any country. Caregivers hold the majority of positions in most ***** private and health care sett*****gs, ***** replacement ***** personnel is both costly and time consuming. Therefore, ***** satisfaction is of major importance ***** ***** long-term ***** industry in Taiwan. What makes some caregivers happy with their jobs, while others are unhappy? Does national culture have an impact on job satisfacti*****, as there ***** large num*****rs of both native and migrant caregivers in Taiwan? With the current need for caregivers increasing, this paper investigates whether there are differences in the job satisfaction *****s of Taiwanese and Filip*****o c*****givers in Taiwan's long-term care industry.
To answer these questions, it is important to look at the national culture of both Taiwanese and Filipino people. Taiwan embraces a traditional culture that has an integrative capacity. During the Tang Dynasty, Buddh*****t teachings, Christianity, and other Western religions co-existed harmoniously with Taoist and Confucian thought. The *****ese people have an open and tolerant attitude toward modern Western civilization ***** people from ***** cultures. As globalization has increased, Taiwan ***** created a "New Confucian" cultural identity. Its soaring economy has proven that traditional culture is not a hindrance to social development. *****'s traditional culture measures the quality of human life on the bas***** of happiness from within rather than material com*****t from external sources.
Similarly, Filipinos come from a ***** culture that values family and educati*****. The culture promotes family closeness and solidarity, politeness, hospitality, growth from "*****," and trust in God. As many Filip*****os are ***** workers, they accept globalization yet maintain their national identity. The ***** language strengthens their national identity as it continues to be developed by usage even as Filipinos take an active part in the process of globalization of the economies of the world.
For both Taiwanese and Filipino workers, job-related rewards appear to extend beyond material gains. Career success includes much more than salary, promotions, and job satisfaction (Heslin, 2004). Both individual preferences and the context in which an *****dividual works determine how ***** perceive *****ir career *****. Career decisions usually involve compromises. A person's experience ***** career success may be built by conscious reflection upon all that career success me*****s ***** that person, combined with a realistic assessment of ***** different career options are likely to satisfy the different facets of one's broad spectrum of career aspirations.
