If you have ever had the opportunity to work with people who just lost *****ything ********** owned, ***** would know just how grateful you feel for having chosen a career in the field of psychology. Helping people in their hour of need comes with an amazing feeling of having succeeded as a hum*****n being. That's exactly how I felt when ***** was sent to work with victims of Hurricane Katrina at a Disaster Relief Camp. That experience only strengthened my belief that being in the field of psychology ***** the best thing ***** could ever happen to me. And what gives ***** even greater pleasure is ***** fact that I come from a minority group that ***** severely underrepresented in this field which accounts ***** lack of cultural diversity among psychology practitioner.
My interest in the field of psychology can be traced back to ***** times when ***** was still in high school and we heard about the unfortunate incident at Chernobyl. I was so deeply moved by the disaster and its impact on innocent victims that I began working on a project that aimed at providing humanitarian aid ***** families affected by the nuclear disaster. My efforts did not go unnoticed as I ***** ultim*****ely chosen to go ***** Belarus to distribute medical supplies and other items. I was served as peer counselor during ***** school- a v*****luable experience that gave me an opportunity ***** reach out to people. During this time, I also worked ***** the President ***** the student association council ***** ***** considered worthy of a v*****riety of awards and scholarships.
***** though ***** initially wanted to be in the ***** pr*****ession ***** was not precisely interested in psychology alone, it ***** along the way that I developed greater interest in community service and psychology became ***** obvious ***** path. My ***** service ***** includes participation in Alpha Psi Omega (community oriented service organization), and serving as the vice-president of ***** *****. Additionally, I was President ***** the Charles Drew Science Club for minorities. For these and other academic and community contributions, I received the ********** Undergraduate Leadership Award for Community Service in my junior year, and the President's Undergraduate Leadership Award ***** Leadership in ***** senior *****. In my junior year, I ***** the Katherine Vario Scholarship for pre-health studies.

However it was not until I moved to California seven ********** ago that I realized ***** ***** of cultural diversity in the field of psychology ***** actually hurt*****g the ***** from o*****r ethnic backgrounds.
