INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this paper is to introduce and d*****cuss the story "How the Tell a True W*****r Story," by Tim O'Brien. Specifically, it will discuss are *****re universal truths that apply to all people and societies; or do we live in a state of relativism, one in which perception dictates how we will respond to the tasks that we are given, ***** ***** the world around us? What happened to Rat Kiley and Curt Lemon? What part of Rat Kiley's ***** do you think is true - if any? Why does ***** write the book the way he *****? Why does he tell the story the way he does, ***** what ***** it that he wants you to understand?

He ***** killed during the Vietnam War, and Rat Kiley, his friend, wr*****es a letter home to Curt's sister, trying to explain what a good soldier and friend he was, ***** the sister ***** writes back, ***** ***** is hurt and d*****turbed by her lack of response ***** his moving *****. Rat makes Curt's life bigger ***** better than it was to try to make his sister feel better, but all he ends up doing is creating a picture of someone who did not exist, and *****'s family m*****t know it. They respond to the truth the only way ***** know *****, ********** ignore it, which is ***** m***** people do when they are faced w*****h changes in *****, or the ***** as we know it.
The truth is, Curt did not die a hero's death. He ***** goofing around with Rat, and was ***** in a stupid *****ccident. He stepped on a booby trap while playing catch ***** a smoke grenade, ***** *****d. The letter Rat sent to Curt's s*****ter was a lie, *****nd she must have known it, and so ***** not grace it with an answer. Her brother was young, just a nineteen ye*****r*****old kid, and not ready for the rigors of war, or ***** horror, or the death.
