¶ … Transformational Leaders With Reference to Service Delivery and Leveraging of New Technologies
This study develops the annotated bibliography of six research papers to investigate the finance transformation and challenges that transformation leaders face in delivering effective services based on the business models and leveraging new technology.
Cavazotte, Moreno, & Hickmann, (2012) in their scholarly article investigates the effects of personality traits, intelligence, as well as transformational leaders' emotional intelligence and their effects on organizational contexts. A meta-analytical review reveals that there is a positive relationship between organizational efficiency and transformational leadership application within a contemporary business environment. While the authors believe that personality traits and intelligence are related to the leadership efficacy, nevertheless, a relationship between emotional intelligence and transformational leadership fail to comply and abide to evidence base principles.
The authors use the hypothesis to test whether intelligence is positively or negatively related to transformational leaderships ability to perform in the business environment. The authors also use difference variable to determine the effectiveness of transformational leaderships to organizational performances. Other hypotheses are as follows:
H2. "Extraversion of a leader is positively related to transformational leadership." "
H3. "Conscientiousness of a leader is positively related to transformational leadership." "
H4. "Openness to new experiences of a leader is positively related to transformational leadership." (Cavazotte et al. 2012, p 11).
Cavazotte et al. (2012) argue the transformational leadership theory is very important in the organizational science. The data are collected to establish the relationships between variables personality traits, intelligence, and transformational ability to enhance organizational performances. The authors collect data from 134 managers of large Brazilian companies using electronic questionnaires. The authors also evaluate the personality of participants using five-point Likert scale. The data analysis is carried out by using the co-variance to test the hypotheses, and model the measurement error. Moreover, the study establishes different variables such as emotional, performance, intelligence, emotional intelligence, controls and personality traits to carry out the data analysis. The authors also use the descriptive statistics to summarize the data in a manageable form, which assist in preparing the mean, standard deviation and p-value of the data. The findings reveal leadership effectiveness can assist in enhancing organizational outcomes. However, the transformational still face challenges in aligning their intelligence to the success of overall employees
Birasnav, (2013) discusses challenges that transformation leaders face when implementing the electronic SCM (supply chain management). In the contemporary business environment, business organizations are increasingly using the supply chain to achieve competitive market advantages. Typically, businesses use the SCM to improve the product quality, increase market share and enhance firms' performances. The role of transformation leadership is particularly important in alleviating the SCM to assist businesses to achieve competitive advantages. While transformational leaders contribute significant in the application of SCM, the author still points out there are still some challenges that transformation leaders face when implementing the SCM to achieve business performances
Weerakkody, Janssen, & Dwivedi, (2011) argue in their research papers that government globally has started integrating the information technology in the public administration. Similar to the private organizations, transformational leaders are also using the concept of BPR (process re-engineering). While the leaders within the public sectors are attempting to integrate latest technology in the organizational process, nevertheless, the leaders still face challenge in enhancing effective implementation of e-Government for the re-engineering purpose. The authors use the case study identify challenges transformational leaders face when integrating the latest information technology in enhancing e-Government re-engineering. The study uses the UK and Netherland e-Governments as the case studies The case studies reveal that the two public organizations have made effects to implement the BPR, nevertheless, they still face challenges in creating radical changes.
Lee, (2003) discusses the challenges that transformation leaders face when using the internet technology to achieve competitive market advantages. The author identifies the internet technology as a business model that assists organizations to shift from the traditional manufacturing operations to e-Manufacturing.
An "e-Manufacturing includes the ability to monitor the plant floor assets and predict the variation and performance loss to dynamically reschedule production and maintenance operations, and synchronize related and consequent actions to achieve a complete integration between manufacturing systems and upper-level enterprise applications." (Lee, 2003 p 502).
Additionally, the e-manufacturing model is a new thinking paradigm that assists in integrating the predictive and web-based intelligence in manufacturing. In other words, e-manufacturing refers to a system methodology that assists in integrating the manufacturing operations with internet, wireless technology, and predictive technologies to achieve functional operations. Despite the benefits that businesses derive from e-manufacturing, nevertheless, the author argues transformational leaders still face challenges in integrating e-Manufacturing into factory floor condition, machine utilizations, and correct unpredictable machine downtown. While ERP has become the financial backbone of organizations, nevertheless, transformational leaders face challenges in integrating the ERP and MES.
The author suggests that transformation leaders can enhancing the ERP to achieve business transformation. The author identifies information and data transformation as effective strategy to align the ERP in the business process. The strategy is to use the data mining tools for data representation, data prediction and data reduction. The author also recommends the integration of predicting tools in the ERP to detect the performances loss, degradation and breakdowns. Moreover, optimization tools assists the business leaders to access data from anywhere and anytime, which assist in effectively monitoring manufacturing performances. The author also identifies synchronization tools as an effective tool to integrate the SCM, CRM, e-commerce systems in the business operations. The strategy will assist the supervisor to estimate the material flow into the ERP systems.
The benefits that business leaders can derive from e-manufacturing model is to assists organizations completing all business operations that include manufacturing operations, customers serviced networks and supply. Moreover, e-manufacturing include a strategy in predicting performances and variation in the dynamic rescheduling. The author further points out that e-manufacturing integrate e-procurement, ERP (Enterprise Resources Management), and SCM ( Supply Chain Management). A major benefit of e-manufacturing is that it accelerates product delivery, and product acceleration. Moreover, e-manufacturing assists in providing opportunities to improve productivity, enhance quality of product delivery, and cost reduction.
Mark, & Keith (2014) in the research article discuss different challenges that CFO (Chief Financial Officer) face in achieving transformation of banking industry through business process outsourcing. The author argue that current business environment has become challenging for the banking transformational leaders and CFO making the industry to record a decline in profitability. Increased of business complexity, new regulatory requirement, and greater completions are the features of banking industry. Typically, banking transformation leaders face challenges in managing the banking organization in a highly uncertain business environment. Some of the challenges facing transformation leaders include inability to integrate technology and data to achieve business opportunities. More challenges facing the transformation leaders in the banking industry are inability to reduce costs, manage regulatory compliance and risks and simplifying business process. The authors believe that many banks are able to have access huge data storage facilities reaching terabytes because of the recent technological developments because of the falling costs of data storage devices. Despite the benefits that financial leaders enjoy from the new technology, nevertheless they still struggle in improving profitability. The authors suggests that banking leaders should use advanced analytics to improve profitability. The advanced analytics assist in using the information modeling technique, statistics, and quantitative analysis to make business decision.
The financial leaders also face challenges in managing competition in the banking industry. For example, the emergence of information technology has led to an increase of competitions from new entrants. For example, mobile banking is fast overtaking the traditional banking system where clients are allowed to carry out different banking operations from their laptops and other mobile devices.
For example, "Non-financial institutions such as Amazon.com are now competing for share of wallet, and financial institutions are forming partnerships with niche tech firms such as iZettle." (Mark, & Keith, 2014 p 4).
Faced with intense competitions, some banks are forced to offer products non-relevant financial products to customers. The authors suggest that the outsourcing model is the effective strategy that financial leaders in the banking industry can use to compete effectively and lower labor costs.
However, Birasnav, (2013) in his research article points out that transformational leader may face challenges when assisting firms to improve customer service with reference to developing new product to customer at the right time. Moreover, leaders may face challenges in encouraging employees to develop innovative solutions to product development. The author argues that application of electronic supply chain management model is an effective strategy to achieve competitive advantages. The authors provides different theoretical framework to establish the role of transformational leaders in enhancing organizational competitive advantages using SCM. The authors argue transformational leadership theoretical framework is very critical for organizational competitive markets advantages and implementation of human capital development. Typically, leadership behaviors are very critical for skill development and development of human capital.
