MBA Thesis - General Definition and Description

An MBA thesis is a document that a learner will have to write in order to complete an MBA program.  All students in graduate school programs need to complete a thesis as a requirement of graduation.  The thesis is a lengthy project that requires students to perform weeks or months of research on one particular topic.  The student will then present his or her MBA thesis to a board for review in order to graduate.

An MBA thesis is a long project that should not be completed in one night.  Therefore, students need to plan in advance to work on their theses so that they can be sure that they are able to include as much information in a meaningful way as possible.

The first step to writing MBA theses is for a learner to decide on a topic.  In many cases, learners will select an MBA thesis topic based on their special area of interest.  For example, if a student is particularly interested in change management, the student may choose a subject related to change management for his or her thesis.  Students should be sure that they are actually interested in the subject that they are going to write their theses about because they will spend a great deal of time with the topic.

After the student has decided on the topic, the student needs to begin his or her research.  In order to ensure that a student makes enough time to work on the thesis properly, the student should develop an MBA theses schedule and plan of action.  This plan of action may include information about where resources are, what kind of interviews the student may wish to perform, and what kind of experiments may be necessary to complete the thesis.

As the student performs research, he or she should keep a detailed journal of notes and observations.  Once the research is complete, the pupil can create an outline of the MBA thesis.  This outline should include information about what content will be included in the document and what the format of the thesis will be.

There is a difference between MBA theses and research papers.  Though both documents require learners to research a particular subject in depth, the MBA thesis is a lengthy project that a learner will only need to write once.  The thesis may also determine whether or not a student graduates with a Masters degree.  A research paper is a lesser assignment that a student may have to perform many times throughout an MBA program.
