Research Design
If a student is working on a research project that requires a large amount of research, then the student may need to develop a research design in order to ensure that he or she performs a suitable amount of research. A research design can not only help students to stay organized, but it can also ensure that the research is thorough.
When a student develops a research design, the student should be familiar with different types of research that may influence his or her work. For example, research that a student performs in a magazine or periodical is different than the research that a student will perform by conducting an experiment. Therefore, students should understand various research methods in order to develop an effective research design.
Many research designs are developed by a student, reviewed by a professor, and then revised before a student begins his or her research. Often, professors can provide essential feedback on a research design that will help students to be more effective in their efforts. For example, a student in a psychology course may have a certain research plan in place that he or she thinks will give him or her information about a topic. However, the professor may suggest a particular experiment that may provide more enlightenment.
One of the most important things that students need to keep in mind when developing their research designs is that the designs are a plan for conducting the research. However, as the research progresses, students may wish to revise those research plans in order to take the research in a different direction. After all, research is about uncovering answers. As answers are uncovered, new questions may present themselves.
It may be helpful for students to write their research designs on a chart of piece of paper. The research design should not only include information about research methods that the student plans to use, but it should also include information about the timeline that a student needs to follow in order to complete the research on time. Therefore, research designs not only help students to be thorough in their research, but they also help students to stay on track.
A research design is very similar to a research plan. However, it can also be easily confused with research resources. Research designs may use particular resources in order to complete the research. However, resources are not necessarily wholly a research design. Therefore, students should regard the two as uniquely important aspects of research and research planning.
