Research Literature Review

Literature reviews are academic documents that learners write in order to provide a critique of an element of a literary work.  A literature review can be written on just about any literary work.  Literature reviews are popular assignments, especially for undergraduate English classes, because they not only require learners to read and understand a literary work, but they also require learners to think critically about the work.  Students wishing to research literature review examples should always be sure that they have a goal in mind before they begin looking for literature reviews online.

There are a wide variety of reasons for why students research literature reviews.  Some students research literature reviews in order to understand the format and type of content that should be contained in a literature review.  Other students research literature reviews in order to find templates for their own literature reviews.  No matter why a student needs to research literature review samples, the student should always try to find samples that closely match a literary report assignment on which they are working.  

One benefit of researching literature review samples is that the samples help learners to become acclimated to the type of writing and level of study that should be included in a well-written literature review.  However, in order to understand whether or not the literature review is well-written, the student should review the source of the literature review.  Does the literature review come from a credible Web site that has a track record for providing high-quality reports?  Does the Web site indicate the average grade level that a literary report has received?

If a student needs to research literature reviews in order to find a template for his or her own literature review, then the student needs to be sure that the literature reviews that he or she finds are written not only on the literary work that the student must review, but also that the literature reviews are written on the same theme.  For example, a literary report about depression in Catcher in the Rye would be different than a literary report about coming of age in the book.  Therefore, the student needs to review the assignment requirements before selecting a literary report to use as a template or first draft effectively.  

When students need to research literature review samples, they are not researching book report samples, though the two are often confused.  A book report provides facts about a book in chronological order and is usually assigned so that a professor can be certain that students have read and understood a book.  

However, a literary report is an assignment in which students not only need to read and understand a literary work, but they also need to think critically about specific themes, ideas, and information presented in the work.  Therefore, a major difference between the two types of academic documents is that a book report provides facts and a literary report provides analysis.
