Sample of Literature Review
Literature reviews are common academic writing assignments for students in all grade levels. However, they are most common for students in English undergraduate degree programs, as they provide a unique forum for students to express their own thoughts on a literary work or collection of works. A sample of literature review papers may help students to determine what a literature review should look like and how lengthy it should be. Therefore, many professors will show students samples of literature reviews before they require students to write their own.
Because literature reviews are generally assignments for English courses, not all students will need to know how to work on them. Therefore, many students will not receive the proper instructions before their first literature review assignment, unless a professor specifically walks students through the steps required to make a literature review. As such, many students used a sample of literature review documents as a basis for their own works.
When a student does not receive a sample of literature reviews from a professor, the student may be able to use outside sources to find his or her own sample of literature reviews. Some students turn to on-campus writing centers for literature review samples. Other students may find more variety on the Internet. However, students need to understand what they are looking at when they review these samples. Also, not all samples will be high quality.
The first thing that a student needs to look for when he or she finds a sample of literature review papers is the format. The format should include a cover page, introductory paragraph, body, and conclusion. The introduction should introduce the reader two the literary work that the student has reviewed and have a thesis statement that describes the student's basic findings. This thesis statement should be supported throughout the literature review in the body. The thesis statement should also hint at what the student will cover in the conclusion of the review.
Many students confuse book reports with literature reviews. The confusion is easy because both types of student writing are created so that the student can review and reflect upon a particular literary work or collection of works.
The major difference between a sample of literature reviews and a sample of a book report is that a book report will cover facts and information in a book. A sample of literature review assignments should be subjective and include the student's opinions on the writing, themes, purpose, and effectiveness of the literature.
