Term Paper Relief

Toward the end of a term of study, many students find themselves overwhelmed and overworked as a result of too many term papers. This is of course counterproductive and only leads to more stress. Though it may seem impossible to complete three term papers in three weeks, it most certainly is not. It may mean that the student will not be able to go out on Friday nights in those three weeks, but worse things have happened. Students should strive to maintain this type of perspective, and realize that they will finish their assignments and that the stress will be over in a few short weeks.

The second path to term paper relief is through intelligent scheduling. It is imperative that students break their term paper assignments down into manageable tasks and assign specific tasks to be completed each day. It is much less stressful to think of writing three pages a day than it is to think of a huge, looming term paper.

Another method of term paper relief is seeking outside assistance. Research librarians are excellent time-savers if a student is still in the research phase of a term paper. Writing centers are valuable resources for all other stages of the process. A writing center consultant can help a student organize his or her ideas and break down the task of writing into manageable goals.

It is also important to seek term paper relief by managing stress. Though it is likely that the student will be very busy in the final weeks of the term, he or she should strive to maintain stress-managing practices such as getting adequate sleep, eating regularly, and exercising. In addition, the student should allot time each day to spend away from his or her desk. This is not only necessary for mental health, but can also help the student return to the project fresh and with new insight.
