Title Page for a Term Paper

A term paper is a formal academic document that a student will create based on research that he or she has performed over an extended period of time. Term papers always need to follow a specific format when the student creates the paper. The format is designed to ensure that all of the papers look the same at a glance and that the professor can easily gauge about how much writing a student has included in the paper without doing a specific word count. Part of that format may include a title page for a term paper.

A title page for a term paper is the first page that a professor will see when a student hands in the term paper. The title page for a term paper is also known as the cover page, as it does not contain the introduction or body of the term paper. Instead, title pages for term papers contain the title of the term paper along with the student's name.

Whenever a student has to write a term paper, the student will use a specific style in order to create the term paper in the format that the professor prefers. The two most popular styles are MLA and APA style. Even thought the title page for a term paper does not fall within the body of the term paper, the student still needs to use these styles when creating the title pages for term papers.

APA and MLA styles look very similar in the body of the term paper. However, in the title page, they have very different formats. For example, APA title pages for term papers have a brief summary of the title of the term paper (even if the title is only two words) as well as the page number for the title page (which will be "one"). However, MLA format is much simpler and only contains the title, author, and date of the term paper.

APA and MLA title pages for term papers do have the same type of font, in most cases. Both doormats require that students create the title page for a term paper and the body of the term paper in size 12 Times New Roman font. However, APA style may allow students to use size 10 and an equivalent typeface.

The title page for a term paper is usually required by most professors. However, if a professor does not want a title page, then the student will simply need to include the title of the term paper and the student's name on the first page of the term paper. This first page may also contain the introduction and part of the body of the term paper. When a professor does not specifically address the issue of the title page for a term paper, the student should always include a title page.
