Education has experienced significant progress in the recent years because of a series of factors that were combined in creating an environment that assists individuals as they struggle to integrate society as perfectly as possible. The Australian educational system aims at improving the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of students. By attending an educational institute in Australia one is likely to enrich his or her knowledge and to experience positive results in his or her later life. The authorities are basically interested in making education a solution to inequalities in the country. While it is typical for an educational system to undergo reform once in a few years, Australians have had access to one that experienced little change in the recent years, but that still manages to ensure that individuals are provided with basic education. The Australian health policy is strongly connected to education, as one's experience makes it possible for the respective person to get hired and to benefit from health care opportunities that are unavailable to certain groups. Education and health are interconnected when considering the Australian system, given that education improves health and vice versa. One of the best explanations confirming these theories is that "additional education improves an individual's ability to make the best choice of inputs with which to produce health" (Kennedy, 1-2). Depending on his or her education level, a person is more likely to have access to a wide range of opportunities. Even when he or she experiences health problems as he or she grows older, he or she is likely to remain healthy as a result of being educated in health-related matters and because he or she has the finances required for him or her to combat maladies. Similarly, one's level of education is essential in determining the kind of job that the respective person can occupy. Poor education materializes into low pay while higher education is influential in providing individuals with bigger salaries.

In spite of the fact that the contemporary society has apparently abandon concepts such as discrimination, it is still present and it is actually very difficult for the masses to leave it behind. Individuals in low socio-economic groups are disadvantaged when compared to individuals in high socio-economic groups because of the quality of the education that they have access to. The government is interested in turning education into a means to assist the underprivileged in their effort to move forward and gain access to opportunities that they did not have access to in previous years. The future success of many children primarily depends on their socio-economic status, with wealthy families being able to provide children with quality education while poor families provide children with an environment that does not support their need to acquire important information.

Ethnic minorities have been traditionally underprivileged when considering their ability to attend education in Australia. Even with that, matters appear to have improved in the recent years, especially when concerning Indigenous people. "Between 2001 and 2006, the proportion of Indigenous peoples aged 15 years and over who had completed Year 12 increased from 20% to 23%. There was also an increase in the proportion of people who had completed a non-school qualification (20% to 26%)" (A statistical overview of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia).

As a result of achieving higher education, Indigenous peoples faced better employment opportunities and improved health results. Although non-Indigenous students experience better educational results, the difference between Indigenous individuals and non-Indigenous groups is slowly but surely lessening. 2006 Census results showed that all states and territories in Australia experienced significant progress in education levels. Non-indigenous groups are, however, advantaged when considering their ability to pursue higher education. Indigenous people are typically accustomed to attend education until Year 12. Higher education is apparently very important in determining an individual's tendency to engage in behaviors affecting his or her health. " In 2004 -- 05, young adults who had completed Year 12 were half as likely as those who had completed Year 9 or below to regularly smoke and to consume alcohol at long-term risky / high risk levels" (A statistical overview of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia). People who attended higher education are also more likely to exercise and to eat healthy foods.

Australian education is largely supported by the government, as all public and most private educational institutes receive funding from the government. Even private educational institutes that receive no funding from the government have to act in accordance with regulations imposed by the authorities. Unlike other governments from around the world, the Australian government strongly relies on public affairs and most people in the country are either directly or indirectly paid by the authorities. The government is the most important economic force in Australia, meaning that it is primarily responsible for reforms occurring in education.

Individuals in Australia are not necessarily fueled by their abilities in having success as they attend educational institutes. "Longitudinal studies across the world indicate that education success rates at school and post-school are in good part determined by social class origin - in particular parents' wealth, occupational status, education and aspirations" (Argy). This later leads to individuals experiencing distress in their adult lives as they struggle to find employment. The government has launched a series of programs meant to assist underprivileged individuals in getting the education that they desire.

The authorities concentrate on making education opportunities dependant on factors such as intelligence and drive. Many people are presently impeded in pursuing an academic career by the fact that they have limited resources or by the fact that they have little to no knowledge in regard to the prospects they should expect as a result of attending a certain specialization. Employers are also hesitant about supporting inexperienced employees because of the resources they have to invest in the enterprise. People who are capable to perform complex activities need to be evaluated on account of their abilities instead of being judged in consequence of their social status.

Australia is renowned for the democratic principles promoted by its government and its people, especially considering the concepts supported by the country. Most Australians are probable to consider that their government provides equal opportunities to everyone in the country, regardless of their background. From an Australian's perspective, individuals in the country are not influenced by the circumstances of their birth or by their social status. Australia has a history in holding diverse groups in harmony and providing people with equal opportunities. However, when considering present day conditions, one can easily acknowledge the fact that many individuals are disadvantaged by their particularities (Living in Harmony -- an overview).

"Fair go" is one of the most important concepts in Australia, with everyone across the country supporting it and considering that it is characteristic for their culture. This concept was made possible as a result of the multicultural environment in the country. All Australians are equally free to benefit from the rights issued in the Constitution and everyone in the country is responsible for assisting the nation in achieving progress. In comparison to people living in other countries, Australians perceived multiculturalism as an advantage and exploited it by focusing on the multitude of talents and concepts coming along with it. It is surely wrong to deny some Australians the right to equal opportunities on the basis of their ethnicity or skin color. Diversity actually benefits society while discrimination and discord damage it significantly, dividing communities and people. Racism is generally absent from the Australian society, this most probably being a result of several years in which individuals acknowledged the detriments coming along with employing prejudiced thinking.

The Australian government has gotten actively involved in reforming the system in regard to education. While people were previously required to be wealthy in order to be able to pursue university education, matters have changed and individuals who are talented are able to get higher education without having to pay for it. It is surely difficult to determine the level to which discrimination can affect conditions in Australian education at the moment, as there are still individuals who consider that particular groups are superior to others. The government is interested in providing excellent education for everyone in the country without expressing any lack of interest in the economic and social needs of the Australian community.
