However, other issues like "lower size of class, advanced textbooks, furnishings, library books, technology in classrooms, hiring and retaining high qualified teachers, curricula that support knowledge required for future employment, guidance counselors, and numerous other components of academic achievement" are not addressed under NCLB.

Poor school performance is indicated frequently by standardized achievement tests, overall grade point average (GPA), and/or failure in core classes (Allensworth & Easton, 2007). During the last two decades retention rates have grown considerably. Often viewed as an indicator of previous school performance, grade retention is consistently cited in literature as a factor that increases the likelihood of dropping out of high school. Grade retention has been cited as one of the strongest negative predictors of educational attainment (Allensworth & Easton, 2007).

Despite improving education level and students performance NCLB also caused many problems for school administrators. This act has been proved to be a great accountability system and now schools are striving for their survival because NCLB mandates them to meet AYP targets otherwise the school is either placed in the "needs improvement" list of is subject to restructuring. Thus, in order to meet standards of NCLB the school administrators offer attention to improve the educational level, instruction methods and teacher performance.

The NCLB has helped to improve performance of the students and decreased the performance gap between minority and mainstream students. Yet retentions rates have been increased as students are not capable to cope with accountability standards. The positive effects of this act include improved performance of the students and schools overall but there is also a research showing that the poor performance still exists among the students of various minorities.
