Personal development planning has also helped me in overcoming the stress and pressures which most of the students face while they are in the middle of completing their educational career. Since I have a clear direction in mind, my whole attention and focus is towards completing my post-graduation program with high grades.

I find studying books and making academic projects more enjoyable than before.

I am now more aware of the techniques which can help me in overcoming my academic weaknesses, like confidence while presenting academic projects; achieving high grades as a compensation for low grades in previous semesters, attending seminars and extra-curricular events and activities, and the like.

I am now aware of my competition in my own university and other competing universities. I will face this competition in each and every phase of my professional life -- from applying for the first job to achieving a top level management position after 5 to 10 years period (Cottrell 2012).

In addition to a number of academic advantages of personal development plan, I am also sure that it will help me throughout my professional career. The biggest advantage of personal development plan for my professional career is that I am completely confident about my future goals and ambition in life (Neenan & Dryden 2001). That is, I am focused towards one area of professional career; I know what type of job position I want to achieve, and what type of competition I will face in the future. Since I have obtained all the necessary information related to my professional career, I am now more knowledgeable about what type of job position will be offered to me at the entry level position; in what range my first salary will fall, and what type of colleagues will be working with me at the workplace (Palgrave 2013).

Moreover, I will be able to utilize my knowledge and skills obtained and polished during my academic career in the professional career. My time management, pressure handling, problem solving, and the most importantly, my leadership skills will greatly contribute in building a successful professional career in the Human Resource Management field. My personal development plan has also helped me in reaching at a position where I have an edge over those students who have not yet planned for their future or are still confused of their career.

Advantages on the Interview Seat:

One of the major goals of personal development planning is to prepare the individuals for their employment career (Burwell 2010). During my bachelors program, I have learned how to pass through the interview stage in the most effective and efficient way. This learning was an integral part of my professional development planning process. Having a well-defined personal development program, I am in a position to defend all the questions which the employers generally ask to the potential candidates. These questions are mostly related to their professional goals, ambitions or long-term goals in life, strengths and weaknesses in personality and educational career, past educational records, achievement and scholarships, etc. As I have already identified these things during my personal development planning process, I will not face any difficulty in answering the employers' questions (Neenan & Dryden 2001).

Some employers try to confuse job candidates by asking questions like where do you see yourself after 5 to 10 years? Or why have you chosen this career while there are various more attractive professional careers? Having a well-defined personal development plan, I will not get confused in these questions. On the other hand, my competing candidates who have not yet defined their professional goals or formulated their personal development plan will fail to answer these questions. Therefore, I will be able to stand out among all such students on the interview seat.

i. To define a clear roadmap for the achievement of life goals:

This personal development matrix briefly explains my short-term and long-term goals and the actions which I have taken or will take in order to achieve these goals. First of all, the basic step which I have taken is the completion of all the phases of personal development planning. After completing these phases, I am able to define my goals. The short-term goal behind developing a personal development plan was to define a clear roadmap for the achievement of life goals. On the other hand, the long-term goal was to make a bright professional career in the field of Human Resource Management.

ii. To improve Interpersonal skills:

Secondly, my short-term goal was to improve my interpersonal skills like friendly behavior, positive attitude towards other group members, strong communication and persuasion skills, soft voice tone, and honesty and integrity in the personality. These skills are essential to achieve my long-term goal, i.e. To achieve a top managerial position in next 5 to 10 years period (Cottrell 2010). This short-term goal can be achieved if I practice these skills in my personal life and educational career. For example, I can improve my presentation skills by giving presentations on different academic projects and improve my personality attributes by showing positive and friendly behavior towards everyone I meet in my life (Taylor & Humphrey 2002).

iii. To Develop Leadership Skills:

The third short-term goal was to develop leadership skills in my personality. As mentioned before, I aim to become a successful business leader in the future; therefore, this short-term goal will help me in achieving my long-term goals. It can be achieved if I start leading small groups of students in different academic projects and prove myself as a good leader (Burwell 2010).

Personal development planning is vital for students to ensure that they are moving in the right direction, i.e. The ambition or goals which they want to achieve in life. I graduated in the Business Management studies and took admission in a post-graduation program to improve my educational qualification and shape my career towards one specific direction. After analyzing the market trends and scope of different areas of profession in the Business Management, I chose Human Resource Management as my future direction. Now, when I am in the final stage of completing my degree, I am quite confident that I have a clear direction of my professional career in my mind.

I have formulated my personal development plan by answering all the questions which arise when someone has to choose his field of profession. I have also developed my personal development matrix which can help my in separating my short-term and long-term goals and identifying different parameters of planning which can lead to the achievement of these goals. In a nutshell, I would say that personal development plan has largely helped me in each and every step of my personal grooming and career selection process.
