The French Philosophers hoped that the American Republic would spark a chain reaction of international renewal, which would ultimately result in democracy. The United States Constitution later gave the French an example of reform that increased French Republicanism and was a model for the French Constitution of 1791.

Through his modest style of dress and his "Poor Richard" stories, Benjamin Franklin maintained an image of the idea that Americans were freedom-loving and virtuous. Through both verbal and written means, Franklin promoted the ideology of liberty, equality, and fraternity, as well as respect for reason. This inspired a desire within the French for more freedom to express their views, and eventually led to the French Revolution. As the Ideal American, the ideologies of Benjamin Franklin will continue indefinitely to inspire and influence people throughout America and the world.
