Inclusivity: One of the most special elements of EcoCare is that parents, staff and children are always encouraged to experience learning together. The facilities and schedules will allow parental drop-in involvement on a regular basis, and all parents will sign agreements to be involved in trips, outing and grounds care inside the play area. All play equipment will be age welcoming, and young people will be taught why these differences matter. Other regular communications will reinforce this.

Section 4:

We are assuming a total enrollment of from 40 to 50. Accordingly, we anticipate the following staff needs and levels:

Director (1 FTE): The Director will supervise and oversee administration and record-keeping. She or he must comply with the state requirements regarding schooling and provide transcripts verifying the units earned by staff. She or he must have DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse Index clearance and a health screening that includes a TB test. They will generally need first aid/CPR certifications and 15 hours of health and safety training. Any Director will also need to have the ability to work well with others. They will need good communication and organizational skills so that they will be able to manage staff, recruit and register families and oversee the financial aspect of the program. They will have to uphold the mission of the school by providing a positive atmosphere for the teachers, the children and the parents/guardians -- which will reflect the same approach to our community.

Assistant Director (1 FTE): The Assistant Director will generally conform to the same expectations noted above for the Director. The AD will generally help as needed and fill in for the director in her absence. The AD will directly support the teachers and help each classroom with creating a curriculum.

Teachers (5-6 FTE): Each teacher will need to comply with the state required schooling and provide transcripts to verify the units earned. Each Teacher is required to have DOJ, FBI and Child Abuses Index clearance, a health screening that includes a TB test and must be first aid/CPR certified. Teachers will be responsible for providing a positive, caring environment for children. They will need to help build the child's self-esteem and teach the child techniques in order to gain resiliency. All teachers at will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for the children including structured learning concepts in math, literacy, art and science.

Discipline Policies: EcoCare will strive to respect and honor all staff in ways that exceed what might be expected. Complaints and critiques will be discussed in a safe and instructive manner. The agency will have certain mandated activities and prohibitions, and actions supportive of or in violation of will be noted. All staff will be given the chance to discuss or explain issues and will have the right for written appeal to either the Director or, if needed to the board or to a parental oversight committee.

Communications: EcoCare starts from the beginning of our relationship with our community and with the parents by talking and sharing. The following are routine methods that will be used to inform and engage stakeholders: parties, volunteer and thank your events that involve visits to green locations; fun and up-to-date presence on the Internet; supportive social networking; child and nature-friendly materials, such as brochures, sample daily activity sheets, event announcements, etc.; parent and family empowerment activities on site.

Child Communications: Parents and staff will review a short daily introduction and overview of what will happen or what needs to happen. A similar close-of-day assessment will happen if possible or by email to ensure communication happens regularly. The agency will use and modify a standard growth software program to incorporate green and sustainability lessons, empowerment opportunities, trips, interests by the child and special opportunities for growth.

Section 5:

EcoCare will conform to professionally staffing qualifications and ratios (NAEYC, 2008). This basically means that we will have classes of 14 to 16 for older preschool children. The respective ratios will be about 6:1 for toddlers and 8:1 for the older children. For our infants, we anticipate having no more than 6 children with a teacher ratio of 3:1. We will adjust for special needs.

Food & Nutrition Management: EcoCare will take exceptional initiatives to use healthy, natural, local and, whenever possible, organic food items. In so doing, we will develop a policy that complies with national, state and regional requirements, and that pays special attention to purchasing, preparing and storing all foods; safety factors for feeding infants and small children; cleaning and sanitation issues; and a sense of openness and transparency about food in a child care setting (Food Safety, n.d.). Parents and the community will be involved to locate sources, help with some costs and getting access and preparing foods using established protocols.

Program Evaluations: The agency will produce annual program reviews with specific goals and objectives. These expectations will be reviewed by a committee of parents and outside experts on particular topics. The draft document will be posted online for comment and updates will be made before the next year's plan is finalized. Children's performances will be judged based on the mission and vision with due respect to privacy and care.
