SAMPLE EXCERPT:

[. . .] A also know that Jesus is a loving God and forgives me for my errors. He will help me become a less selfish and more loving person. Humans, like myself, make bad choices. We fall into the trap of wanting to do things our own way. We are self-centered, independent from God, each one seeking our own way, focused on getting all we can for ourselves. It's like the two-year-old "my, my, my" syndrome. God explains it this way: "People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God-- having a form of godliness but denying its power" (Timothy 3:2-5).

Although all human beings ultimately fall short of measuring up to God's perfect holy standards, Jesus has taken this punishment on Himself. God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to bear the penalty for our wrongdoings. Jesus therefore described His mission this way: "The

Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28). "The Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost" (Luke 19:10); for "God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him" (John 3:17). When believing in Christ, a wonderful thing happens. God forgives us of all our sins. He puts them completely out of His sight. Such forgiveness is truly a gift, for none of us can possibly work our way into heaven, or be good enough to warrant God's good favor. Because of what Jesus has done for us, we freely receive the gift of salvation. It is a gift provided solely through the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). And it is also a gift that will remain with us all our days. In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus says this: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

On the other hand, my belief in a Christian God gives me the opportunity to right my wrongs. Jesus is here to lend a hand when I want to make process and move forward. Because of our intellect, we humans are capable of doing much to alleviate worldwide hunger, poverty and illness. The technology and means exist. What also must exist is the willingness to not be content with the mundane, but to want more for everyone. With the support of our God, we can see new purposes in life that are so much more important than such trivialities as buying a new car or wardrobe. We can be driven to seek more Godlike goals.

Why believe in a Christian God? It is because there are absolute truths and the accurate fulfilled prophecies of a coming Messiah. In Christianity we have the extremely accurate transmission of the eyewitness documents or gospels so we can trust what was originally written. And in Christianity do we have the person of Christ who claimed to be God, performed many miracles to prove His claim of divinity, who died and rose from the dead, and who said that He alone was the way the truth and the life (John 14:6). All this adds up to a religion that means so much to me and my personal way of life.

As a believer in a Christian, I know God is totally loving and good. He created the universe, and keeps it going day by day. Even though He died, his death was not the end. Somehow He was brought to life and changed. This gives me the hope that death is not the end. He made it possible for me to have peace with God -- now and forever. God is still very active in the life of every person even if we do not recognize Him. With Him inside of us, we can have the strength to go through hard times and also the wonder of enjoying the beautiful miraculous times as well.
