The insurance industry can benefit by exploring the advantages it can offer to its employees (the field-agents, for e.g.,) as well as the customer. Trend Analysis

The Glass is poised to emerge as the next big thing that technology promises and take the world by storm in many industries that touch everyday human life. With around hundred and forty five million smart phone users as quantified till August, 2013(Comscore, 2013) that ten percent transforms to a fourteen million prospective buyers of Google Glass in the U.S. itself.

It is a given that the more tech-savvy general users and those that can find real useful uses to upgrade their businesses and vocations will be among the first users of this new innovation. However, the long-term wider acceptance and adoption of this marvel would largely depend on the designing aspects that Google brings into it for better social acceptance. In a survey carried out by Bite Interactive (Cruz, 2013) almost half the respondents found it an uncomfortable proposition to wear such a device, at least in its present form. This feedback is most unexpected for the developers of the device. It was anticipated to be seen as a trend setter of sorts, a style statement, if you may.

There is a definite cognition for Glass in the market. However what is unsure is how fast, if at all, it will replace the smart phones and the tablets that are firmly entrenched as the most favored devices at present. There are a few changes, according to us, that may help make this device a good option to the already used digital devices:

Longer battery life

More features that would embrace individual & professional integration

Insurance agencies have to aware of the opportunities that are being thrown open by the dynamically changing digital world and innovations. Being a slow-growth industry inherently, it becomes all the more important for players in this industry to keep up with, and make exploit the technical advances being made to their maximum to stay ahead of competition (Kim et al. 2013).

There is an overhaul, of the way business is being done, in the making. It is going to alter the perception of business: consumers and sellers alike. The consumers/clients/customers then won't be able to accept that the insurers can't offer them the services efficiently. This insurance industry has got to adapt quickly to these changes. In the present form, Glass may not have found the following it may have sought. However, with the feedback it has gained from the market and consequent changes (it has either already incorporated or is in the process of making), it may soon reach the masses with a wide appeal.

Why can only Google succeed?

The secret of success of Google Now lies in its innovative use of the private, individual information it has garnered from its users. It can apprise them of birthdays in advance, alert you on traffic conditions, weather changes etc., to enable suitable changes to your plans and schedules. You can never get lost, even if a foreign territory with Google by your side.

All companies don't have such a level of personalized data about its customers/users. However, that is not to say that they don't have data at all. They have loads of data that needs to be seen for its optimum use. It is the personal statement made through the data that they have, that will make them more competitive. As an example:

JetBlue can advice its passengers on their next mornings' flight to pack warm clothings given that it knows about snowstorm at a destination in advance.

Intimation of a sale of a particular brand of Macy's Jeans can be passed on to a customer who has previously shown a liking to that brand.

ESPN can use the information of a customer preference to a player to alert him in advance of the players' inability to participate for an entire season because of an injury.

Glass has only just begun its journey. It remains to be seen how various industries use it and develop apps around it and take it to the next level of consumption. In an interactive session in 2013, Google even encouraged applicators to test the limits to which Glass could be stretched to.

In the final analysis Glass has to make the concerted effort to please the entire ecosystem: the end-users, the developers and the business community to make the most of this breathtaking innovation it has brought about.
