¶ … joint 7-year program provides a unique opportunity for the right student: a student that maintains high academic standards and is dedicated to the medical profession. For the right motivated individual, this program gives them an accelerated route to achieving a lifetime dream. My passion for medicine began when I volunteered at the Comprehensive Health Center. There I assisted in medical procedures and community health fairs. The community health fairs were eye-opening as I saw the lack of medical knowledge available for the general public. At the center, medical assistance was provided to lower income communities that desperately needed it. While I always read and heard about the differences between varied socioeconomic statuses, I never saw this difference until the health center. It was a life changing experience. The power of medicine to help a community was astounding. I saw a field that I can dedicate my life to, a field that helps people across the socioeconomic spectrum. Ever since volunteering at the Comprehensive Health Center I committed myself to becoming a physician, seeking opportunities to expose myself to all sides of healthcare. I participated in various research opportunities while staying interested in community service by joining the Salvation Army, founding Adios Lombrices, an organization that fundraises for third world nations and joining UNICEF. These experiences and organizations helped forge my decision to enter medicine and become a doctor that cares about the patient. This focus on patient care is one of the reasons I want to obtain my medical education at Drexel University College of Medicine.

Application Essay on Joint 7-Year Program Provides a Unique Opportunity Assignment

Drexel University College of Medicine is a medical school that centers its teaching philosophy on patient care and community service. Participating in the Villanova University National Youth Leadership Forum in Medicine gave me hands-on experience at Drexel University College of Medicine and first-hand insight into their approach to medicine. It left a lasting impression and helped me decide where I would like to attend for medical school. On a superficial note, the location of where the school is located is another contributing factor. Through medical conferences and visiting schools, the Philadelphia region offers a lot of the same urban conveniences and diversity that is found in major urban cities and environments. I want to work and learn in a diverse, exciting environment and I believe Philadelphia can offer me that opportunity. Attending Drexel University College of Medicine will help immerse myself in the Philadelphia community.

The accelerated program is a path to medicine that will be intense, difficult, and at time seem overwhelming but I know these challenges will only strengthen my resolve to pursue medicine. Throughout high school, participating in research labs and community health centers, gave me a taste of what it means to be a physician, now I want to pursue my goal at full speed. There is no turning back for me because I know this is what I was meant to do with my life. The accelerated program simply provides a way for me to achieve my goal faster. It gives me the necessary education to fully provide individuals with the proper healthcare management, while allowing me to pursue this at a faster rate will not allow my extreme passion and dedication to die out.

Health is something that affects everyone. Regardless of where they come from, despite economic circumstances, health is a universal concern. However, it is not equally treated nor are resources evenly and properly distributed. It is my desire to bring medical assistance to those who need it most, as well as expanding and building on pre-existing research that has influenced my decision to pursue a degree in the medical profession. Having had personal experience in a variety of research projects, I personally know the effect that properly managed research can have on communities that sometimes may seem unreachable. This is one of the main reasons why I want to pursue a career in the medical profession. Medical research is a way for everyone to get access to proper healthcare. Finding a cure for something in the developed world due to the resources, both financial and academical that exist, make it easier for the application on the less developed, poorer nations.

Knowing that not every country is created equally, nor is every neighborhood in the United States, makes pursuing a career in medicine that much more appealing to me. I know that I will be able to make a difference. I know that applying my scientific knowledge and my dedication to health will make an impact in everything that is done. Medicine contains an array of constituents that comprise what may be applied to everyone. Making a contribution to medicine will mean making a contribution to the elongation of millions of lives all over the world. It is because of this that I have always had a passion for health care. Having been a part of organizations to promote health equality all over the world, such as UNICEF, has opened my eyes to the vast possibilities and the great future that medicine will have on the developing world. It is because of this that I know that I will be a great contributor to this phenomenon. Everyone has the power to make a difference in the world, and I know that I can be a part of that change that medicine will have on this Earth.

After experiencing the impact that research has had on more than just the immediate environment, I was inspired even more to pursue a degree in the medical field. From research done to improve spinal cords injuries, to medical and dental procedures, I have been able to grasp the significance of all these venues. Having been academically successful, it seemed only natural that I contribute my scientific knowledge to a world that needs people like me. I know that I can make an impact, and I know that I can contribute my experience, my practical and scientific knowledge, as well as my people skills to a field that needs medical professionals that actually care about more than just success, but that can actually attribute the success to something more meaningful. I feel inspired everyday to pursue this goal as I know the impact that people will feel. Having witnessed first hand how unevenly medical resources are distributed to those who severely need it most, I feel compelled to make a difference and to assist those that can use my help. These are just a couple of the factors that have influenced me to pursue a career in the medical profession. As aforementioned, I know that my dedication to whatever it is that I am working on, will assist me and guide me to bring my applied knowledge to the communities that could use it most. Knowing what I know through my experience and through my academic endeavors, medicine is something that can make such a huge impact on humanity as a whole and getting the opportunity to be a part of this is the main reason why I am pursing a professional career in the medical field.

Being able to work as a part of a team is an essential characteristic in the health field. When one is able to work with whomever one is presented the opportunity of working with, it is vastly important that conflict does not exist nor arise in order to successfully complete a project, regardless of what that project may be. It is this one characteristic that I consider myself to highly possess and that also makes me the perfect candidate for admission into my top choice schools. Having had the great opportunities to take advance science courses in such elite universities as John Hopkins University and having had the experience of being a part of groundbreaking Medical research at Columbia University, I have been able to gain an immeasurable amount of directed perspective on medical issues that few individuals my age have been able to gain themselves. Because of these early experiences however, I bring enthusiasm and hope into a field that may seem dull and unstimulating to most. My energy and my liveliness into making a groundbreaking difference due to the medical research that I have been a part of and that I will continue participating in, has made me an ideal candidate for your institution.

In order to succeed in such a demanding field as that of medicine, it is important to be a well-rounded person, which I fully consider myself to be. I have been known to take on a variety of projects because of their great interest to me, regardless of how challenging they may be perceived by others. Because of my ingenuity and my dedication, anything that seems intellectually stimulating to me, drives me to work harder in order to fully embrace everything that that specific project can attain. Aside from my academic achievements, I have also learned the practical knowledge necessary to talk to a variety of people. This is something that I believe to… [END OF PREVIEW] . . . READ MORE
