According to Bolman, and Deal (2011) the effective leaders should have following characteristics and traits in common. The leadership should possess a strong vision about their roles and expectations from other. The vision is important in deriving the organization towards a desired state. The clarity in their vision and objectives is also necessary in order to present their ideas and vision of the objectives. The leader's role in creating a synergy through motivation and offering rewards is also vital in an organization's success.

The effective leaders are open for communications and receiving feedback about their vision, objectives, and goals. The strategy formulation is also a notable trait of effective leaders. The degree to which they rely on the feedback and inclusion of their subordinates for strategy formulation is dependent on the style of leadership. The leaders are also required to possess strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills in order to deal with the daily work related situations. The effective leadership in an organization is required to understand the values and attitudes of their employees in order to offer tangible and worthy rewards for increasing their level of motivation. The leaders commonly motivate their subordinates to achieve results beyond the expectations (Bolman et al., 2011).

The leadership role in motivating employees is defined in the earlier sections. The leaders are also required to provide vision for the business. The accuracy and clarity in the vision of leadership provides a foundation stone for the business to peruse their objectives. The leadership roles in a business require laying a tangible foundation for their employees to follow in order to achieve the desired objectives. The vision for the business laid out by the leaders is a reflection of their mission and objectives. The vision and mission of the business provides a roadmap for the formulation of objectives and strategy. The business leaders envision the place where they would like the organization to be in the coming years and through the clarity in vision of leaders the whole organization in governed.

The objectives for a business with respect to their financial, market, human resources, operations, innovation, and customer services are based on the leadership vision and organizational mission. The business further formulates a corporate strategy for achievement of these objectives. The corporate strategy is further distributed into management, and functional strategies for achievement of management and functional goals. The leader's participation in formulating and validating the strategy is extremely important. The higher leadership takes a front line role in providing guidelines for establishment of strategy for achieving the relevant goals through their vision. The support provided by the leadership in helping employees achieve their role specific objectives through a guided path is emphasized in the path goal theory.

If you were the leader in the organization, what would you change and why?

The leadership role in an organization is vital in terms of vision, mission, formulating objectives, and strategy. The organization under question is the boys scout movement. The boy's scouts and military organizations are mostly lead through the autocratic style of leadership. It is an effective approach for leadership however there should a reasonable degree of participation from the management, and functional levels. In such case the boy scouts and military soldiers should also be taken on board regarding various initiatives. The level of frontline and middle management in decision making process is one of the effective approaches according to contemporary leadership theories. I would positively like to change the existing structure of the military and boys scout's organizations. The lean management in military can produce effective yet appraisable results. The cost of operations can also be reduced through such changes.

The bureaucratic chain of command requires a formal structure where the middle and front line concerns and issues are addressed to the minimal. It is also time consuming for the organizations to actually reach to the root cause of the issues and concerns of the staff members. Furthermore the cost of maintaining a formal hierarchy structure is also higher as compared with a lean organization structure. The effectiveness of two way communication in organizations is also increased through such initiatives. The changes in the structure will also provide more chances for offering a worthwhile motivation and reward initiative in order to increase achievement of organizational objectives. Similarly the business organizations can also achieve increased results through restructuring their organizational structure, vision, mission, and objectives.

Conclusion:

The business leadership in an organization follows different styles and theories of leadership. The transformational leadership is associated with changing the organization's structure, vision, mission, operational, and functional strategies. These changes are encouraged as they facilitate the business to effectively achieve its objectives and goals. The transformational leaders are also somewhat similar to the charismatic leadership as they also inspire their subordinates to achieve higher results through efficient techniques of motivation.

The transactional leadership creates sustenance in the business through rewarding the consistent behaviours and punishing the inconsistency. They tend to achieve results through their contingent reward approach. The path goal theory is identified as a contingent approach in which the leadership sets a moderate objective for its followers to achieve, guides them through a path for achievement of such goals, and promises to reward the high achievers. The motivation is created through highlighting the fact that rewards are worth the effort.
