Letter for Charity

Dear Julee Patterson

I am writing this letter in hopes that it will find you, and bring you at least one moment of solace. I have learned of your battle with cancer, and as much as it breaks my heart to know you are suffering, I am captivated by your courage and fortitude. To fight the good fight is admirable to say the least, and is a quality found in too few. Your willingness to face such odds, and maintain a refusal to retreat is a true testament to your strength and bravery.

I have never personally been diagnosed with cancer, and I can not comprehend or begin to claim to know how you feel and how you cope with this physical, mental, and emotional burden. Although I have not experienced cancer, I have experienced loss at cancer's hand. My mother passed away in April 2006 after losing her battle. In addition to my mother, I have watched as cancer took hold of a few close friends and several other family members. I have been a witness to their pain, their struggle, and their suffering. There is an emptiness in my heart that is impossible to fill. I had to find my own force of strength to cope with the loss of these loved ones.
