To demonstrate these views she talks with Paul Merrill (Cornell's Gussman Director of Jazz Ensembles). He believes that the more someone studies music the greater the influence this will have on them. Evidence of this can be seen with Merrill saying, "The more music an artist studies and is exposed to, the wider the framework they can draw upon. These influences seep into popular music, especially hip-hop. There are correlations between hip-hop beats and a traditional triplet jazz feel. In both genres the notion of improvised ideas are crucial." This is illustrating how B.O.B. is discussing various ideas of vs. To incorporate them into his songs. (Glasser)
