The basic functionalities of a scheduling system are:

It has the ability to schedule the machines finitely or infinitely.

All the jobs are considered under the common due date. These scheduling problems are used for finding the consecutive distribution of resources and also particular jobs. The scheduling of jobs on the different number of multiple machines with a specific processing time in the production of number is usually done by different types of scheduling techniques. Some of these techniques produce a schedule in which a different number of tasks are given to a certain machine, but there is no priority for which a task has to be produced first. This means, that when a problem arises, that is when they need an excel spread sheet and priority rules to give the priority to each task produced by the machine.

In this type of scheduling, there are n jobs that have to be processed on m number of machines. Each job consists of different sets of operations. Processing the order of each job, and processing the time of each operation. For example, consider N. amount of jobs that need to be processed on M. amount of machines. Each job consists of different number of operations. In the first and foremost step, tasks are allotted to each machine according to their requirements. Coming to the second step, these allotted tasks are sequenced on each machine in a manner where the total processing time is minimized. Basically, the second step deals with the algorithms (Polydani, 2010).

The simplest approach to job shop scheduling problems can break into many sub-parts. These sub-parts have to be scheduled separately based on algorithms. Each operation should be processed on a particular machine. The scheduling usually depends on the number of machines, sequence of jobs, and also the number of jobs. Multiple researchers developed algorithms for job shop scheduling. Job shop scheduling is fulfilled based on using the heuristic algorithms. It is discussed above that one machine should have at- most one operation. So the previous operation should be scheduled to complete before the machine is prepared and able to proceed to its following operation in the series. It is essential that all operations are completed in a decent amount of time, without any interpretation. The proposed effective neighbourhood functions for Job shop scheduling problems.

Due date is a factor that has to be controlled by the consumer and the individuals who pick the jobs. Usually in each type of scheduling technique due date is set to particular number of days. Customer priority: It is completely based on the significance of the consumer. Based on the priority the task has to be done and produced.

The pull production techniques help the organizations in creating a close track of the production activities. The management is aware of the order status through necessary documentation and tracking the orders placed for production. The job status is updated at each point enabling the records to be updated accordingly. The inventory is maintained at a lower level and the intimation of low inventory level to place order is also initiated. The usage of estimated amount of material during the time of order placement serves as a check point for the production schedule and plan (Brown, Blackmon, Cousins, & Maylor, 2012).

The standard sized containers are also used as a measure in the pull production techniques. The quality checks at various stages are also ensured to reduce the waste of material and cost of time invested. The movement of materials in recorded and traced at various time intervals. The order quantity is fixed and it is also ensured that the production produces the required quantity in the given time. The single job initiation in the system also helps the management track production at various stages. There are various inbound and outbound buffers in the production system to ensure smooth location identification in pull production (Brown et al., 2012).

The changes that can add value for the customer are derived from the operations management practices. The customers enabled to tack their orders and informed with the progress are more likely to be satisfied with the business. The changes required in the current system are mostly related to the production scheduling and incorporation of a pull-based lean system to facilitate the production. The economic environment in the countries is getting competitive with the passage of time. It requires the business to incorporate changes in the investment required and capital help for production.

The trade-off for inventory holding and cost of producing a unit in overtime should be calculated and the decision making should base upon the best value for the cost of production. The optimal level of holding inventory is related to the comparison between cost of inventory and the frequent orders. The inventory holding cost is one of the major factors in deciding the optimal level of inventory. Management is also required to adopt an integrated approach for enabling the business process. The elements of production including the assemblies and subassemblies and raw materials should be integrated to produce optimal results.

The customer value can be added through timely delivery, low cost yet efficient products, and availability of the products on regular basis. All these requirements can be fulfilled through an effective operations management system and control of the activities that require a clear understanding of the manufacturing process. The business can also gain a notable advantage through the choice of appropriate techniques in managing production. The efficient job scheduling and job shop scheduling also allows the management to handle production through a managed approach.
