Evaluation of the strategic plan

a. Description of two success metrics that will be used to evaluate the plan.

Business challenge one: Develop and implement a transition program to groom a replacement for the current CEO: The success metric for this business challenge will consist of meeting the objectives set for in the timeline in Table 2 above.

Business challenge two: Create a marketing division focusing on female-oriented sporting goods and services, including sports-related video games: The success metric for this business challenge will also consist of meeting the objectives set forth in the timeline in Table 2 above.

b. Explanation concerning how the suggested changes will be sustained

One of the most effective ways of sustaining meaningful change in organizations is to celebrate incremental successes as the business challenges are addressed. In this regard, Haid (2013) emphasizes that, “Every organizational success is achieved as a result of the work of many. Rarely is anything accomplished by a single individual. Acknowledge achievements often, and celebrate successes regularly” (p. 54). In addition, a project leader will be assigned to each business challenge and will assume personal responsibility for ensuring that it remains on track with respect to the timeline set forth in Table 2 above.

c. Discussion concerning three challenges that might negatively affect the plan’s implementation

Challenge No. 1: Downturns in the economy: Given the largely discretionary nature of purchases from the company, any downturn in the global and national economies would have a serious effect on the ability of Bill and Fred’s to implement a new line of female-oriented products and services.

Challenge No. 2: CEO reluctance to step down: Likewise, the current CEO may resist any efforts to replace him and there does not appear to be a consensus at present concerning this overarching need.

Challenge No. 3: Untimely death/debilitation of the current CEO: A final challenge that may adversely affect the plan’s implementation would be the untimely death or debilitation of the current CEO, essentially leaving the company is a leadership vacuum.

d. Contingency plans for each anticipated challenge are as follows:

Challenge No. 1: Downturns in the economy: Remain vigilant concerning recent and current trends in the North Americans economies to identify potential downturns so that appropriate preparatory steps can be taken in response.

Challenge No. 2: CEO reluctance to step down: Company employees may have to take matters in their own hands and submit a petition to the board of directors to convince them of this essential business need.

Challenge No. 3: Untimely death/debilitation of the current CEO: Designate an interim replacement for the current CEO pending appointment of a permanent replacement.

How the strategic plan will be communicated to internal and external stakeholders

The elements of the strategic plan concerning the introduction of female-oriented products and services will be communicated to external stakeholders through high-profile announcements on the company’s Web site, press releases and catalog sales. The elements of the strategic plan concerning the implementation of a transition program for the company’s current CEO will be communicated to internal stakeholders organization-wide through the company’s newsletter and a personal communication (either email or hard-copy) to all company employees, supervisors and executives.
