Gender equality has been an issue for many years, and it is only recently that a lot of progress has been made in many different areas of life. One place that progress has not as readily been seen is the area of college sports programs. Recent articles on the issue hint that the women who coach these college teams make much less than the coaches of the male teams, and much of the money that goes to scholarships at these schools is turned over to the male athletes, leaving the female athletes out of the mix. Many schools spend 2 to 3 times more on their male athletic programs than on their female athletic programs (Fish, D1). There are reasons behind this in many colleges, however, and some of these reasons make more sense than others, when looked at objectively.

There are several colleges and universities across the country that have male athletic programs that make considerably more money for the school than the female athletic programs. Logically, more money should go to these programs because they are such strong revenue producers. The main concern for many people is that the treatment of the female athletes does not equal that of the male athletes when it comes to locker facilities, game schedules, and transportation, among other things This is, of course, a concern because the treatment of human beings, regardless of gender and other issues, is very significant, and all people deserve equal and respectful treatment, at least until they prove otherwise.Download full Download Microsoft Word File
